What is RSS?

What is RSS and How do I Use it?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication.
Syndication enables you to access the content of a site or blog without actually visiting the site. If you are interested in the information on a blog (written, audio, video, whatever), for example, you could subscribe to the blog’s “feed” (usually by clicking on the large, orange icon). Then, you would need to sign up for the services of an RSS “reader”, which is software that can read the RSS feeds and display them to you. There are many available out there and I use Google’s RSS reader. So, you sign up for a reader and each time you see a blog you like you may subscribe to its RSS feed. When you feel like reading the updates from the blogs you are subscribed to - you just open up your RSS reader and browse through the latest blog entries from your favorite blogs.

For a wonderful, more detailed explanation of RSS check out this article - What is RSS Syndication from Yaro Starak’s blog, Entrepeneur’s Journey.
