Lower Triglycerides with DHA

Just what is DHA, you might ask? DHA is short for docosahexaenoic acid. Most of you know what Omega 3 fatty acids are. Well, DHA is a form of Omega-3.

Many of you also probably know that it’s a good idea to take 1000 milligrams of Omega 3 oils daily to help lower your cholesterol. Well, apparently, DHA is also good for lowering triglycerides! High triglycerides, or Hypertriglyceridemia (in medical-speak) is a risk factor for coronary artery disease.

The Journal of the American College of Nutrition reports on a study that was performed comparing the effectiveness of DHA versus the effectiveness of DHA and EPA (eicosapentaenic acid) in lowering triglyceride levels in CAD (coronary artery disease) patients.

The bottom line of the study showed that there is no significant difference between using DHA alone and using DHA along with EPA. But the study clearly showed that the consumption of omega-3 fatty acids can definitely lower triglyceride levels in CAD patients!
That is great news, Friends. It is so easy (if perhaps a bit expensive) to buy yourself a good quality Omega-3 and take it daily. Good for cholesterol, triglycerides, concentration, mood and so many other things. Go for it!
