Free Healthy Recipe - Apple Crumble
We’re back on apples! One of my favorite foods.
Apple crumble is something against which I have absolutely NO willpower!
I would imagine that it would be better to use canola oil instead of margarine. I would try a tablespoon.
Ingredients
For Apple Puree
* Apples
* Raisins
* Orange Juice
Stew the apples and raisins in orange juice until you have a puree.
For crumble
* 1 ½ tablespoons Self Raising Flour (I would use whole wheat flour….Dena)
* 3 tablespoons coconut
* 1 Weetabix, crushed or 1 tablespoon of oats
* 2/3 oz margarine (I would use 1 Tablespoon of canola oil…. Dena)
* ½ teaspoon equal (optional)
Method
1. Rub the margarine into the flour until you have fine breadcrumbs.
2. Stir in the other ingredients.
3. Put the apple puree into an ovenproof dish.
4. Cover with the crumble mix.
5. Bake Gas Mark 6, 400°F, 200°C for 20 mins

Thanks for the recipe, Dena.
Your readers may like to keep in more of the goodness of the apples by not making a stew first.
So just chop the apples, press down firmly into your ovenware dish with your hands, pour over the juice and raisins, then cover with the crumble.
Next press down on the crumble, either with your hands or a large wooden spoon, so that it ’seals’ all the goodness in. Then gently fluff the surface of the crumble with the tongs of a fork.
Bake as normal and you’ll find the apples cook in their own sealed chamber!
My recipe uses ground almonds instead of coconut as a personal preference.
all the best

Thanks Jonathan.
That sounds really good. I’ll have to try it and see if the apples actually get cooked enough. “Naturally”, the less you cook them, the more natural health and goodness will be in them.
Almonds wouldn’t “float my boat” but it sounds like an interesting combination.
Happy baking
Dena
