Comment on Beer for a Healthy Heart? by Admin

MY HUSBAND drinks one beer. Or even a half a beer.
Interestingly enough, he suffers from high blood pressure and before I told him about the benefits of beer, he found that drinking a beer when he feels lousy (bp-wise) helps him to feel better. Crazy, huh? But it makes sense when you hear that it can cause an increase in a chemical which prevents blood clotting! He feels it makes his blood flow more smoothly.

Ah, but who drinks just one 12 ounce beer? The health benefits are lost when one drinks more. These studies usually are sponsored by the product manufacturers in an effort to boost sales.

Having a beer (or wine) is fine, but it's silly to convince yourself it's healthful, unless you strictly abide by the "one drink a day" rule. Cheers!

Thanks Jonathan.
That sounds really good. I'll have to try it and see if the apples actually get cooked enough. "Naturally", the less you cook them, the more natural health and goodness will be in them.
Almonds wouldn't "float my boat" but it sounds like an interesting combination.
Happy baking

Thanks for the recipe, Dena.

Your readers may like to keep in more of the goodness of the apples by not making a stew first.

So just chop the apples, press down firmly into your ovenware dish with your hands, pour over the juice and raisins, then cover with the crumble.

Next press down on the crumble, either with your hands or a large wooden spoon, so that it 'seals' all the goodness in. Then gently fluff the surface of the crumble with the tongs of a fork.

Bake as normal and you'll find the apples cook in their own sealed chamber!

My recipe uses ground almonds instead of coconut as a personal preference.

all the best
