Hoping for Fat Loss vs Expecting It

Here is a great article written by one of my favorite fitness guys, Scott Tousignant. Scott is the author of the program “The Fit Chic” which I have. It’s a terrific all around fitness plan which covers not only fitness but also diet and motivation factors. If you are interested in increasing your fitness levels but need motivation - Scott is the man for you and you may want to check out The Fit Chic

By Scott Tousignant, BHK, CFC
Creator of Unstoppable Fat Loss
Author of “The Fit Chic” and “The Fit Bastard”
Co-Author of “101 Great Ways To Improve Your Health”

There is a huge difference between hoping to reach your fat loss goals and expecting that you will achieve them. The major difference is that those who expect to be living in their dream body have programmed themselves to succeed and those who are simply hoping are holding doubts about their chances for success. So how can you avoid falling into the ‘hoping’ category?

Eliminate doubt by seeking role models

If you have any doubt in your mind that achieving your fat loss goal is possible, if you think that you’ve got to many obstacles and challenges in your way, if you’ve failed before and are worried that it’s going to happen again… find proof that it won’t!

I guarantee there are many people in this world who have faced greater challenges than you have and still they accomplished their fat loss goals. I guarantee that these people failed many times before achieving their dream bodies, but they refused to give up. I guarantee that they ‘expected’ to succeed.

Map out a plan – Now that you have role models who have achieved fat loss success, apply the blueprint that they’ve laid out for you. Model their behaviors, attitudes, and actions.

When you have a plan, you know what it’s going to take in order to develop your dream body; What workout programs you are going to follow, what foods you are going to eat, how much sleep you should get, how often you write out your goals and visualize your dream body, what you should record in your journal, how to overcome obstacles and challenges, and everything else that is required to achieve fat loss success.

Now that you have your plan all mapped out, you’ve got to know why you want to achieve this goal. It’s time to get fired up and passionate about how your life is going to change once you are living in your dream body.

When you reach your fat loss goal, it’s not just going to be your waist line that’s going to change. Your self-confidence will blow through the roof, you may land your dream job or gain a promotion, you may attract the love of your life, you will have the energy to play with your children, or even try new activities that you never thought of trying when you were overweight. The possibilities are endless.

Now all you have to do is “Just do it!”

Be willing to do whatever it takes

This doesn’t mean that you need to go to the gym for 2 hours 7 days a week. It doesn’t mean that you have to be perfect with your diet plan. Being willing to do whatever it takes means that you have an understanding of what needs to be done in order to achieve your dream body. It could mean that you schedule in rest days, reward meals, days where you do fun activities rather than go to the gym.

It means that when are faced with a challenge or setback, you pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and drive forward with even greater effort. The journey towards achieving your dream body is not easy. Accepting these challenges and setbacks as being a natural part of the processes and realizing that it is not an opportunity to give up, but an opportunity for growth, will place you among the people who expect fat loss success no matter what.

It’s easy to hope and dream for a lean and desirable body. Most of us do that on a daily basis. But it takes a special kind of person to expect the dream to come true. You now know what it takes to expect success. Take action and apply these strategies and I expect to see you living in your dream body very soon.

Fitness Humor - Letter to My Long Lost Waist, Judy Gruen

Here is a piece of humor from my latest favorite author: Judy Gruen from judygruen.com.

You gotta admit - She’s funny!!!!!

Letter to My Long Lost Waist , reprinted with permission.

Dear Waist,

I know it’s been a long time since we’ve seen each other, and things were strained between us when you finally left for leaner pastures. But I am not too proud to admit that I (and several articles of clothing in my closet) still miss you desperately. Perhaps I should have seen the warning signs earlier, and understood the danger that you would slip away from away from me, one belt loop at a time. But must we be like so many other modern relationships, transient and shallow? Can we not begin again?

Admit it: we used to be a great team. We had so many laughs together! Thanks to you, I smugly cinched belts to a satisfying close, even without having to mortify myself through torturous sit-ups five times a week. At parties, you were an asset more valuable than a raconteur’s storehouse of witty repartee. Do you remember my dazzling turquoise jumpsuit, worn to so many summer parties back in the days of Big Shoulders? Admiring males nearly spilled their beers when I sauntered by in brilliant blue on the way to the buffet table. Back then, I was heedless of those vile four-letter words, such as “carb” and “cake.” Whenever I recall that jumpsuit (every Tuesday at 10 a.m.), wondering if I could ever fit into it again, I fight back tears while the immortal words of Edgar Allen Poe echo darkly: “The sad answer, ‘Never– Nevermore.’”

Without you, I am left quietly waiting for a consultation in the women’s lingerie department, Read the rest of this entry

Cooking Your Vegetables Does NOT Make Them Less Healthy!!

I read about a recent research done that shattered a myth for me today.

A team of Italian researchers headed by Dr. Nicolette Pellegrini peformed research on the effect of various cooking methods on the phytochemicals in vegetables. They examined three forms of cooking methods - boiling, frying and steaming on three types of vegetables - carrots, zucchini (courgettes) and broccoli. Frying was found to hurt the antioxidant properties in the vegetables whereas the other two cooking methods did not lessen the amount of phytochemicals at all. Boiling and steaming better preserved the antioxidant compounds, particularly carotenoids, in all vegetables analyzed and ascorbic acid in carrots and courgettes.

Isn’t that fascinating? We always heard that it’s better to eat vegetables in the raw in order to derive maximum benefit from the vitamins in them. This research changes the picture, huh?

My conclusion: Eat your veggies!!! Eat them fresh; eat them cooked. As long as you eat them. And don’t forget to vary the colors you consume.   Read more about that in my post about optimum nutrition.

Beer for a Healthy Heart?

Did you know that a beer a day may actually help keep your heart healthy?
A study done in Israel on a group of males with coronary artery disease showed that consuming 12 ounces of beer a day brought on changes in the blood chemistry. These changes are connected with reduced risk of a heart attack. What blood chemistry changes were found? Lower LDL (bad cholesterol), higher HDL (good cholesterol), increased antioxidants and decreased levels of fibrinogen, a clot-producting protein.

Who participated in the study? Forty eight men, ages 46 - 72 with coronary artery disease. The group was divided  into two groups. One group drank a can of beer daily for one month and the other group drank mineral water.  Both groups ate healthy diets with lots of fruits and vegetables.

21 out of the 24 beer drinking patients showed positive changes in the blood chemicals which are associated with a lowered risk of heart attack!!

So, if you like beer you can allow yourself to drink it in moderation, which, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services means: not more than 2 drinks per day for men and no more than one drink per day for women.  A standard drink is 12 grams of alcohol, equivalent to one 12 ounce can or bottle of beer, one 5 ounce glass of wine or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits.
